If you’re in need of a great looking handle wrap that isn’t going to add a lot of thickness to your bow’s handle, then look no further. This video will show you how I make a super thin and great looking DIY rawhide bow handle wrap that’ll fit most longbows and recurves. You can get rawhide pieces here. Although I use a sewing machine in the video, you can certainly do this by hand so long as you keep your stitches small. Rawhide will shrink while drying so large stitches will tend to open up exposing whatever is beneath. One step that might not be evident in the video is to turn the rawhide grain side in when sewing. Before putting the wrap on the bow you’ll turn it grain side out. This way the stitches are on the inside when it’s on the bow.

I wanted to personally thank you for sharing your expertise with us. As a beginner archer, and an artist it fascinates me with the thought of building my own long bow. I always take time to create something beautiful especially an item that’s beauty will bring a means for target practice, hunting, and competition. Thank you again for openly sharing your skills and knowledge to people like me.
Sincerely,
Michael James
